Relationships - Marriage Encounter Weekends
My wife, Dale and I have participated in several Marriage Encounter weekends. They help strengthen our relationship as we reestablish communications that may have weakened over time.
Marriage encounter weekends are designed to help revitalize one's marriage. There are different types and many today ,unlike the 70s, have no group discussion but instead have presentations from counselors and clergy to stimulate communication that is help privately later in one's own room. The idea is to get away from the daily problems and home environment and have time to be educated on communication and other skills in a supportive environment. Some marriage encounter weekends have a religious component and others do not.
The goal is to deepen one's commitment to one's spouse, find ways to deal with tough issues and reaffirm one's love once again.
For those that enjoy group sharing dialogues, there are some marriage encounter groups that include that, but many leave that as a private matter between the couples and instead offer presentations. If you do decide to attend a marriage encounter group that includes group sharing, it is helpful that the staff includes trained , licensed counselors that can help process emotions that may come up in the sharing sessions.
