Life Changes
Our circumstances change all the time. For 6 years, I traveled every week for my job until last May when I found a local job that would allow me to learn something new in my field. While allowing me to learn, to find a company that would hire a 57 year old for this type of job was extremely fortunate. Luckily, I am in a field (Hospital Services Information Technology) that is in demand so I don't feel the bias against older workers that some people have experienced.
Right after I started my new job, my wife, Dale, found a job training hospitals throughout the US on a fetal monitoring/documentation system with which she has supported at one of the local hospitals for many years. Some people told me that I should have gathered something from this sign of her traveling after I just found a local job but I can't imagine what it is.
We lived like this for the last 8 months, in which I would take her to the airport instead of her taking me to the airport but regardless, we were at an airport. While Dale liked the training aspect of the job, the scheduling part became more than she was comfortable with and she found a local job again.
She will be starting a job at the same health system that I work for and will be in the same department (IT) but in a different specialty, Clinical Informatics. She has been a nurse forever but when I heard about this job, it sounded like something that she would be interested in and she applied and was hired. She will be 3 doors down from me so I'll see her often and we may work together on projects but neither of us will work for the other. We have worked together before and it has never been a problem so I am looking forward to the next adventure in our lives.
While this is still in Fargo, North Dakota and not somewhere warmer, I am sure our next adventure will be a fun one. A plus to all of this is that the kids will be glad she is home.
