Relationships-Fun activities to do with your grandchildren, ages 2-5
One of the things most grandparents are uncertain of, is what exactly they can do to have fun with their grandchildren. While each child's tastes will vary, there are actually many fun activities you can do with grandchildren of all ages. It's easy to find fun things to do with them while they're young though, because everything seems to make them happy and they're not overly picky. Just spending time having fun with Grandma and Grandpa is often all they want or need.
With that said though, here are several ideas of fun activities you can do with your grandchildren when they're between the ages of two to five…
1. Play make believe. This activity is particularly fun for young grand daughters, because they love to dress up, play tea time, or play with their dolls. And having Grandma or Grandpa to play these make believe games and fantasties with them can really make their entire day.
2. Go to the park. Young children really love going out to the park, and when they have someone who will devote time and attention just to them, they love it all the more. Grandma or Grandpa can push them on the swings, catch them when they come down the slide, or simple walk around the park looking at pretty flowers and trees with them.
3. Color and Paint. Young children also love to color in coloring books, do paint by number sets, the most fun of all: Fingerpainting! These are great activities to do with your younger grandchildren at any time, but they're particularly fun to do on a rainy day.
Just break out the coloring books and crayons, or make it seem even more special by using colored pencils or markers instead. If you decide to go with fingerpainting, make them feel all the more special by getting them an artist's easel too! And don't forget face painting. This is a great twist on the painting idea that younger grandchildren will have lots of fun with.
4. Crafts and Artwork. Another excellent fun activity you can do on a rainy day with your younger grandchildren, is simple arts and crafts projects. You can help them make a special mother's day card for instance, using glue, sequins, construction paper and pictures. Or you can make artwork for them to hang on the frige or the wall of their room too.
5. Go on special outings. Young children love going out somewhere special with their grandparents, and there are always plenty of places to choose from. Try the zoo for instance, which tends to be an endless source of fascination, fun, and adventure for young children. Take them out for ice cream too, even if you don't go to the zoo the same day, and they'll still have lots of fun.
6. Toss a Ball. Young grandchildren love having someone devoted to paying attention to them for even short periods of time, and an excellent enjoyable activity Grandma or Grandpa can do is to just go outside and toss a ball. You can teach them to catch a baseball or football if they're a little older, or just toss around a big beach ball instead.
7. Read to them. This may be one of the simplest activities of all, but it's always fun for the grandchildren and grandparents alike. Young children love to hear stories, so spend some quality time either reading a book to them, or telling them a story of your own – true or made up doesn't matter, they will have a blast.
